English Bagatelle has been around for a very long time, but tables are becoming a rarer sight in the UK. Once a common sight in pubs in England, you are now must likely to come across on in the city of Chester. If you have come across one, one of the first question you will have is "how do I play this game?".
This website has been created to explain the game, and to let people know where they can find tables to play on. It is a fantastic game and free to play, so look out for it and have a go.
Score as many points as possible in up to eight shots.
The black ball is placed on the spot. All the other eight balls are cue balls, regardless of colour.
Starting position - the black ball is on the spot just below the 1 cup.
A cue play should be placed anywhere between the two widest dots at the end of the table.
Aim at the black, and try and pot either the black, or the cue ball (by going in off the black) in one of the nine cups.
Cueing off - position the cue ball anywhere between the spots.
Continue play until there are no remaining cue balls.
While the black is still in play (not in a cup), it must be hit before any other ball in play.
Once the black has been potted, you may aim at any other ball in play.
If there are no balls in play (e.g. if you pot both the cue ball and black from your first shot), take one of your cue balls and place it on the spot.
Score: double 9 + 8 + 6 + 5+ 3 + 2 = 40.
Score: double 7 + 9 + 5 + 3 + 2 = 26 = 33.
Score: 8 + 6 + 1 = 15.
